Musically, it meant grafting unwarranted au courant attitudes onto the dependable drive of the rhythm section. Lyrically, it signified glorying in distance and turning stances, slogans and promises into false currency.

THE ROLLING STONES DEEP DIVE: TATTOO YOU
The band starts this album super strong with the next mega hit of their career, “Start Me Up”. This song is just pure fun, awesome guitar work, rhythm section supporting perfectly, and Mick showcasing a lot of swagger overtop. The next song keeps up the energy pretty consistently with some pretty unique lead guitar work during the solo, it’s also quite a bit shorter than the opener. “Slave”, while being much more of a slow ... read more

This is a good one! I’m glad the Stones kind of picked up again after a few albums that didn’t do as much for me. This one just has a lot stronger songwriting. Start Me Up is one of their most iconic songs and is easily one of my favs from the band. Slave was another surprise hit with one of the hardest grooves in their discog. They built "Tattoo You" from a series of outtakes that were composed throughout the 70's, but the album possesses an 80's ... read more

It can’t be understated how good of a job Rolling Stones did on here: from the fact that it was formed from a series of outtakes the group did during the 70’s, and was being actively worked on while they were on tour.

One of the first albums I got on vinyl, and a really good one at that! There's a lot of standout tracks here, but it's a forgotten part of The Rolling Stones' discography. Truly the last great Rolling Stones record.
