Tonight I spent some time reflecting on the amazing two days the Arete Leadership team spent together, brainstorming and challenging each other. One of our sessions was the “Time Machine”, going back four years with the knowledge we have today, what would we do differently. We don’t spend much time in the past, but some reflection is healthy. I came home tonight and saw this coffee mug that sits on my desk all the time, never used. I keep it in memory of a beloved resident. He was the first resident we lost to Covid, four years ago. He would go to the dining room early for every meal and serve coffee to his neighbors. He was an incredible man, and losing him broke our hearts. Looking back, I can say that as challenging as the last four years have been for various reasons, there is little I would change. Because every challenge, hardship, and opportunity created the environment that brought this team together. This incredible group of people who are committed to supporting our communities in being the best place to live and the best place to work. Tonight I am filled with gratitude for this team, and others who are now serving other groups of seniors, for the passion and resilience they have shown in the face of every obstacle imaginable. Thank you for enhancing the lives of every person we serve. (Sorry Thomas Cloutier for the photo without you, but thanks for bringing our favorite little girls to dinner for a bit before you needed to get them to bed!)

This is a great opportunity at a community which is close to my heart. I started at Avamere at Hillsboro as a caregiver in 2001. I was working here in memory care on the morning of 9/11/01. I went back ten years later as Executive Director. Both of my children worked here as servers when they were high school. Every community is unique and special, but Avamere at Hillsboro will always be home!

I’ve had the honor of working with incredible teams throughout my career, but there is no comparison to the Arete team. I learn new things everyday and today I learned that our home office could be professional chefs!!One consistent thing I’ve learned in my career is that the most important factor of success is having the right team. This group will change the face of senior living, I’m just lucky to be along for the ride.
