King of the Hill Walkthrough - STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Guide - IGN (2024)

King of the Hill is a story mission in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl that unlocks during the events of Deal With the Devil. If you choose to become Varan's assassin, the mission activates, tasking you with hunting down the head of one of two rival gang leaders.

There are two targets to choose from in King of the Hill: Shah, the leader of the Brood, and Roosevelt, the boss of the Commissary. You only need to kill one to complete King of the Hill.

Where to Find Roosevelt

Roosevelt is northeast of Slag Heap at the Commissary building.

You can storm the base if you're not a fan of all that sneaking around. Roosevelt is in a large warehouse with a single guard standing by.

The guard will tell you to beat it, but you can walk in even if you don't have an invite. Roosevelt and his gang will go hostile if you do, and you'll need to fight your way out. Take the PDA off of Roosevelt's body and return it to Varan to complete the mission.

There is, however, another way that doesn't involve getting shot at.

Where to find Borodulin

After accepting the King of the Hill mission, Varan suggests getting information on the group from a former Commissary member, Borodulin. This action is completely optional, but worth the effort if you prefer the stealthy approach.

Look for Borodulin northwest of the Plant.

Walk along the path until you hear Borodulin over the radio. You'll find him, erm, watering the flowers, clearly drunk out of his mind.

Speak with him, and he'll ask if you're interested in a mutant hunt. Agree to do it, so long as he provides some information on his former companions.

Get your weapon ready and follow Borodulin into the tall grass. Mutants attack in two waves, and Borodulin must survive both encounters. You won't learn how to sneak into the Commissary base if he dies.

After the second wave, Borodulin suggests a new hunt: Against you. If you pick the [Threaten] option, Borodulin attacks. Pick "Sure thing" to start a dangerous game of hide-and-seek.

You only need to survive the attack for a couple of minutes. Look for a cement structure nearby with pipes attached. Climb the ladder to its roof and crouch to wait him out.

Once the time is up, Borodulin will call out to you, saying he's good to talk.

Go to Borodulin and he'll tell you about a bathroom in the courtyard you can use to sneak in.

How to Sneak into the Commissary

Head northeast to get to the Commissary. Roosevelt's men won't be hostile, so don't worry about trying to sneak inside.

There is a bathroom you can find in the Commissary courtyard, but it doesn't directly lead to a balcony. It is near a way in, regardless.

To find it, walk down the road with the large building in the courtyard to your left.

Take a left at the truck.

Walk up the incline and take a right at the wall.

You'll see the bathroom.

Past the bathroom is a large pipe leading to the building. Follow the pipe and turn right to go up the ramp.

Drop onto the platform by the window and go inside.

Crouch low to stay quiet, and then head to the ground floor. Look for Roosevelt sitting at his desk in the walled-off office area.

Take him out and grab the PDA off of his body.

Leave the building. His men may become hostile now, so don't waste time leaving the Commissary. Return to Varan with the PDA to finish King of the Hill.

Where to Find Shah

If you'd rather take on Shah and the Brood, you can find their base northwest of the Plant. Take the road north and make a left before reaching Slag Heap.

Shah is in the white building with a single guard standing out front. The Brood won't be hostile until you try and go inside uninvited.

Kill the gang members and their leader Shah, then take the PDA off of his body as evidence.

An alternative way of dealing with Shah and the Brood is to take a job from Huron, as suggested by Varan. If you want to attempt this optional path, head to Slag Heap and ask Huron the trader for a job. He'll grumpily ask you to take care of a missing shipment. Agree to start the side mission No Honor Among Thieves.

Return to Varan to Complete King of the Hill

Take the PDA of one of the dead bandit leaders and return to Varan. Hand him the PDA as evidence of your deed, and he'll give you the Metal Key needed to unlock a room just below. This ends King of the Hill, allowing you to finish Deal With the Devil.
